Alterface to launch Popcorn Revenge at AAE 2017

Alterface will unveil a new and unique ride concept at the Asian Attractions Expo (AAE) in Singapore.

The international trade show will take place over the course of three days, between 13 and 16 June, and will see the introduction of Popcorn Revenge, Alterface’s latest dark ride.

Popcorn Revenge is a spinning interactive dark ride that takes riders on an exciting journey through the theatre, which they have to defend from vengeful popcorn.

Popcorn, tired of being eaten and never getting to see the end of the film, exacts its revenge by taking over the theatre and declaring war on movies. Players have to save the theatre, and subsequently the world of movies, using a special candy dispenser to shoot candy and caramel at the rogue popcorn.

The new immersive attraction can accommodate up to 600 riders an hour, and features a revolving theatre. The theatre rotates in blocks of 40 seconds, moving groups of eight players further into the ride, through a series of immersive scenes.

The theatre also features themed scenery, integrated screens, custom-created media, projection mapping, dynamic lighting and special effects. The effects are controlled by Alterface’s Show control FX studio, a sophisticated system that is designed to be compatible with all types of interactivity, including: 4D shooter and gesture recognition.

Alterface partnered with Dutch design company JoraVision to create the design and theming of Popcorn Revenge.

Ben Cornet, founder and CEO of Alterface, says: “Developing a totally new and proprietary IP opens up new and exciting perspectives. We always want to offer our clients someting unique so they can provide top-notch entertainment to their visitors.”

Robin van der Want, project development director at Jora Vision, says: “Interactivity should not be used as an add-on but as a powerful tool to immerse visitors in the story. The new Popcorn Revenge attraction is designed along this philosophy
